UK Charge Zone Checker

Find out before you drive whether a town will charge or fine you, plus the cheapest fuel when you get there.

2What are you driving?
3Your vehicle's details

Type your number plate and we'll work out your vehicle's age from it. It isn't stored or sent anywhere.

Fuel

Hybrids count as petrol or diesel. Your logbook (V5C) shows the registration date.

Map of zones, crossings and fuel prices

Tap a zone or crossing to see its name, then "Check this place". After a search, the cheapest garages show as price tags.

Markers show where each zone or crossing is, not its exact edge. Zone boundaries follow particular streets and ring roads, so open the official map on the zone's card before you drive close to one.

Every charging zone at a glance

Daily charges for vehicles that do not meet the emission standard. Electric vehicles pay nothing in clean air and emission zones.

How to avoid a fine

  1. Check your number plate on the official checker. This app estimates from your vehicle's age. The GOV.UK and TfL checkers read your actual emission record, so they are the final word.
  2. Pay only on official websites.Look-alike sites add fees and sometimes never pay the council, so you still get a penalty. Use the links on each card.
  3. Watch the deadline.Clean Air Zones give you 6 days after the trip. Dartford and the Mersey Gateway give you until midnight the next day. Durham gives you 24 hours.
  4. Remember you cannot pay in Scotland or at Oxford's traffic filters.A vehicle that does not meet the standard is fined straight away, so plan a different route or use park and ride.
  5. Read the road signs.Bus gates, bus lanes and parking restrictions are camera-enforced in many towns and are not listed here. Signs warn you before the boundary.
